Pitt vs Storm: A Retrospective.

Going for Broke is named aptly. For “The Godfather” Davis Storm, he has to win. There are no if’s, and’s but’s or maybes. Standing in front of Storm is an opponent he is all too familiar with. Marcius Pitt, the current EPW Coastal Champion. He has done it all in EPW. He has held the EPW Championship and Tag Team Championships on numerous occasions, Invitational Trophy winner, Wrestler of the Year and Match of the Year wins each year between 2011 and 2016, and again in 2018. If he were the one to retire a man who he has such a rich history with, it would be right up there on his list of achievements, a feather in the cap.

Their story began with the two future rivals teaming up however, with a tag team defeat to Carlo Cannon and Richter in 2010. From there, they were never on the same page. Their first singles bout came in February of 2011, where Storm defeated Pitt to retain his EPW Championship. Pitt would then go on to win the championship for the first time against “The Godfather” two months later in April, before being beaten for the title just over a month later. In 2011, Pitt would have the final word over Storm, where he would pin him last in an elimination match to become the EPW Champion for a second time.

The pair would not meet again until 2015 at Hot Summers Night, when Pitt would again hold victory over Storm in a tag team main event. They would lock horns one-on-one a few months later, with Pitt again coming out on top, before yet another tag team victory in July. Going into 2016, it was much the same story, Pitt again defeating Storm in tag team action, and then retaining the title against him two months later.

Finally, Storm overcame Pitt at Evolution where after a hellacious cage match against Logan Grey, Storm cashed in The Solution’s number 1 contender-ship to once again reign at the top of EPW. The next two bouts were split with a victory a piece for each man, the latter being a three-way including Grey for the championship, which Storm won. Into 2017, Storm won another multi-man matchup, this time overcoming Pitt as well as Chris Vice and Pitt’s future TMDK and Untouchables partner Damian Slater to become number one contender for the EPW Championship.

That brings us to (Tag Event) Re-Awakening XVIII. A tag team match that saw The Untouchables take on Davis Storm and Richter. We all know what occurred just last November, with Pitt and Slater picking up the win. Since that night, Pitt has retained his Coastal Championship at Hot Summers Night and afterwards, he and Storm had a heated confrontation in the middle of the ring.

Now, we have the ultimate stakes. Career vs championship. Can Davis Storm do what he has done so many times in his near two decade career and overcome, becoming only the fourth Coastal Champion in EPW history? Or will Marcius Pitt vanquish a foe he has battled for 10 years, putting Storm into retirement once and for all? The stats speak highly in the favour of the champion, but you can never count out “The Godfather”.

One thing is certain. You do not want to miss Going for Broke, Saturday March 7th at the Claremont Showgrounds Gate One Theatre.
