May the Fourth. It’s International Star Wars Day and EPW is teaming up with Varsity Project – Morley to provide you the Ultimate Battle of Good vs Evil. It’s going to be a great night of action complete with themed food and drink specials. It got us thinking here at EPW what it would look like if we were to re-cast the EPW roster into the most famous Star Wars roles. We’ve looked at the OG Star Wars films being that as WA’s premium professional wrestling company, we too are the OG’s of Western Australia pro wrestling.
Luke Skywalker – Scotty Ryan
The Big Rig rose from humble beginnings as he dropkicked around at the beginning of his EPW career. Over time he has continued to master his craft and has become the greatest reigning EPW Coastal Champion of all time. Fighting for the good within the EPW Universe (can we use that?) is a leader that this generation can get behind. It helps that you don’t need to change too much up either, instead of Come On You Scotty we could go with Come On You Skywalker!
Darth Vader – Julian Ward
Once deemed as one of the leading lights in the galaxy, Ward has turned to the proverbial dark side (depends on which side of battle you stand on). A short, short time ago he and Scotty Ryan used to be friends. However at Goldrush, Ward swung his trusty kendo stick across the head of Ryan leaving the fans in attendance thinking it wasn’t true and that it was impossible. As time progressed, we found there was good in Lord Vader (Spoilers! #DontSpoilTheJediGame) but Ward is looking to crush that notion to dominate the landscape of EPW.
Princess Leia – Stella Nyx
The Star Child may not quite have the resume of the child of Anakin and Padmé yet but there is a lot to like about the future of Stella Nyx. Princess Leia was known for being brave and fearless in the face of the Empire. Stella too is brave and fearless as she has looked to explore new galaxies (well, the Eastern States) and has been fearless in her pursuits of the EPW Rising Star Cup. But what side of the ultimate battle will The Star Child fall on?
Han Solo – Jack Edwards
This one doesn’t seem super obvious. But if you look closely, Jack Edwards can be funny, he can be cool with a line. Whilst we haven’t seen the maverick style attitude yet, Edwards is proving to be more and more accomplished piloting his team in the ring. And speaking of his team, he is flanked by the coolest mother f…(what your dang mouth!) in the EPW universe in Tipene. Though so far, we’re not sure Tipene or Chewbacca have the wider vocabulary.
Yoda – Mean Dean Olsen
Wiseand full of knowledge, the Voice of EPW guides all of us through the action in the squared circle. Olsen has been studying the ways of professional wrestling for many years and is eager to impart this insight to those willing to listen. We’re not sure about Olsen being able to have premonitions, he definitely has the ability to hear voices that give him the force to announce future EPW matches…
Emperor Palpatine – Tyler Jacobs
Jacobs is an original of EPW who believes in the power of the “light” side – which quite frankly hurts this similarity from the get go. However where the similarities begin is how Emperor Palpatine and Father Jacobs look to manipulate the younger order to see his perspective of the universe. Breeding loyal servants of his message in the hopes they let the light flow through them, there is no doubt for Tyler Jacobs that the message he is spreading is good, good.
Obi Wan Kenobi – Davis Storm
Heis the Godfather of Australian wrestling, with more knowledge flowing through him than the majority. He is a legendary figure in his own right, the 6-time EPW Champion has paved the way for all that followed. As great as a master as he is as a competitor, his legacy may just be what he has inspired. He has trained a many student, some have fallen to the Dark Side and some continue to fight on the side of the angels. But don’t take his passion to share his skills and knowledge for weakness because if he is called up to battle, you better believe you are in for the fight of your life. Right, New Japan? Liger? #NJPWThunderStorm?
Jek Tono Porkins – “Azazal” Drake Wallace
Google it 🙂
We hope you try to be there Saturday night at the Ultimate Battle of Good vs Evil at Varsity Project – Morley on May the Fourth. No! Do or do not be there. There is no try.
