LAST MAN STANDING
‘The Real Wrestler’ Gavin McGavin vs Julian Ward
WHY MCGAVIN WILL WIN: McGavin is hell-bent on moving up the card in EPW, and to his credit, he is doing it. A loss here is not an option if he intends to challenge for the EPW Championship anytime soon so you know he will do everything in his power to get the W. Last Man Standing matches always favour the more heartless and desperate of the two wrestlers, being more willing to do whatever it takes to keep their opponent down for the 10 count. Purely because of this, the odds should be in Gavin’s favour. Look for him to show a dark, remorseless mean streak like we may not have seen before…
WHY WARD WILL WIN: Ward is a jet. It’s tough to call him underrated anymore because I think he is starting to turn some heads on both sides of the curtain. If you asked me who the “next guy” in EPW is, Ward would be my answer. In saying that, he still has a lot of detractors with the major knock on him being that he lacks a certain “killer instinct”. If he gets the chance to put McGavin down for a 10 count and even blinks, he will lose this match. Time for Ward to show us the fire in the belly and shut McGavin up for good.
ODDS: McGavin $1.70 / Ward $2.00
PREDICTION: I predict pain. Last Man Standing matches are particularly brutal, and this will be no different. Julian Ward is a tough human being and he has the size and athleticism advantage over McGavin, but there’s a rage in Gavin’s eyes that I don’t think Ward can match. McGavin has all the air of someone who is not going to rest until he is the undisputed number 1 in EPW and I have no doubt he is prepared to do whatever it takes to put Ward down. McGavin would drive a truck through the Cyril Jackson Rec Centre and straight to the ring if there was a chance Ward would get caught in the crossfire. This determination gives him a big edge.
RESULT: A few years off their careers, and McGavin to win in 18 minutes. Also a possible visit to the hospital.
