Jonathan Wimbledon vs Tipene
Why Wimbledon wins: He’s too quick, too smart, too experienced.
Why Tipene wins: Raw strength.
Odds: Wimbledon $1.65, Tipene $2.35
Match in Brief: Expect Tipene to impress early, but this isn’t Wimbledon’s first rodeo. At some stage, Tipene will think he has Wimbledon beat and get too cocky — which will be his downfall.
Prediction: Wimbledon will win by pinfall in 6 minutes.
BATTLE FOR REAWAKENING REDEMPTION
Julian Ward vs Gavin McGavin
Why Ward wins: Because he has too.
Why McGavin wins: Because he has too.
Odds: Ward $1.80, McGavin $1.80
Match in brief: Both of these guys came off devastating losses at ReAwakening 16, which makes this an absolute must win. Make no mistake, this may not be for a title but its importance cannot be understated. What direction 2018 takes — not just for these two men, but for EPW — is going to be enormously affected by the outcome of this match.
Prediction: McGavin will find some underhanded way to get the win in 12 minutes.
Jay Taylor vs David Nero vs Kiel Steria
Why Jay Taylor wins: Because he’s the smartest man in the match.
Why Dave Nero wins: He’s quick, agile and has some incredibly devastating (and spectacular) offensive moves.
Why Kiel Steria wins: As stated above but add 30kgs.
Odds: JT $1.70, Kiel $1.70, Nero $2.10
Match in brief: There is huge show-stealer potential in this one. A ‘don’t blink or you’ll miss it’ type scenario. And don’t be fooled by Steria’s size either; he’s one of the best high flyers in EPW’s history.
Prediction: It’s tough to call, but I’m going with Steria in 10 minutes.
EPW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Generation Zero (Allyson Cruz & Hayden Zenith) vs SMDK (Dan Moore & Jarrad Slate) vs The Headhunters (Tyler Jacobs & Dan Steel) vs Nacho Friends (El Taco Nacho & Del Cano)
Why Gen Zero will win: They currently have all the momentum.
Why The Headhunters will win: There’s a chip sitting on Steel’s shoulder the size of a boulder, and they have rawer aggression than every other competitor in this match.
Why SMDK will win: A combination of tag experience and their unpredictable nature.
Why Nacho Friends will win: I have no idea… Maybe it will become a taco eating contest at some stage.
Odds: Gen Zero $1.45, Headhunters $1.65, SMDK $1.90, Nacho Friends $4.50
Match in brief: This could be a messy one, but I expect Gen Zero to retain. The big question mark hanging over this match is Steel’s unbridled fury, which has the potential to change everything.
Prediction: Allyson Cruz to pin Del Cano in 13 minutes
‘The Messiah’ Davis Storm vs The Warship
Why Storm wins: Because he’s the craftiest, smartest, and best wrestler in the history of EPW, and is coming off one of the most devastating losses of his career – all thanks to the interference of The Warship.
Why Warship wins: He can’t.
Odds: Storm $1.05, Warship $15
Match in brief: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Storm is an assassin. Warship is directly responsible for him not retaining the EPW Championship at ReAwakening 16. That is not something Storm will take overly kindly to. Expect him to come at Warship with absolutely everything he’s got. He will hit early, he will hit hard, and he will hit often.
Prediction: You sunk my battleship. Storm to win via stoppage after 5 minutes.
EPW COASTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
‘The Big Rig’© Scotty Ryan vs Taylor King
Why Scotty Ryan will win: He’s the better man and has a point to prove this year.
Why Taylor King will win: He has the size advantage, is completely unpredictable, and has a genuine thirst to prove himself.
Odds: Scotty Ryan $1.30, Taylor King $2.80
Match in brief: Taylor King may be an idiot but his in-ring ability is undeniable. This won’t be a walk in the park for The Big Rig by any means, but if his 2017 was anything to go by, he’ll simply be too good for King.
Prediction: Scotty Ryan to win via submission in 10 minutes.
‘The Don’ Michael Morleone & Chris Vice EPW Championship match contract signing
Odds of someone getting power bombed through the contract table: $1.01
Signing in brief: Seriously, you couldn’t pay me to be anywhere near these two while this is going down. This is a powder keg just waiting to explode and I have very little doubt we’ll have to wait too long before these guys get physical.
3 STAGES OF HELL GRUDGE MATCH
The Untouchables (Marcius Pitt & ‘The World Beater’ Damian Slater) vs The Street Gang Hooligans (‘AK47’ Alex Kingston & Logan Grey)
Why the Untouchables win: Because they are arguably the two best wrestlers in Australia at the moment.
Why the Street Gang Hooligans will win: Because they are arguably the best tag team in Australia at the moment.
Odds: UT $1.75, SGH $1.85
Match in brief: “youtube highlights clip”
Prediction: The fans will be the real winners here. The Match of the Year bar will be set impossibly high for the rest of 2018 after this one. The Untouchables to win in the 3rd fall after 30 minutes of the best wrestling action you will ever see in Australia.
