ReAwakening 16 – Full Results

The higher the odds, the harder the fight…

Which was never truer than when Scotty Ryan had to defend his Coastal Championship against Kiel Steria, Tyler Jacobs and old foe Gavin McGavin in the same match. Ryan retained the gold by defeating McGavin, putting their year of turmoil to rest.

Chris Vice smashes on

Winning the fan-voted ‘Most Improved’ award earlier in the night, the Invitational Tournament was supposed to be Julian Ward’s breakout moment. Unfortunately crashing big moments is what ‘The Smashing Machine’ does. Attacking Ward before the bell and delivering a lethal piledriver onto the wooden stage, it seemed as though the entire Invitational Final would be thrown out, along with Julian Ward’s vertebrae. This was a clear message from Chris Vice to the locker room and EPW management that he has no care or remorse for his actions.

But this is Re-Awakening dammit! Julian Ward was able to fight back, showing unbreakable determination and resilience, before finally being put away with a series of powerbombs and vicious sit-out piledriver.

The dream run continues

1 year ago, David Nero would have been an unlikely choice for next breakout star in EPW. 2017 saw Nero break down those perceptions, even making it to the Block B Final of the prestigious EPW Invitational Tournament before going down to eventual winner Chris Vice. Re-Awakening was Nero’s moment to either fall back into obscurity, or continue his path to the top. No easy feat when you’re matched with a hungry, relentless wolf like Dan Steel. A 450 splash was just enough to answer any questions and now David Nero will have his eyes firmly focused on 2018. A bitter pill to swallow for Dan Steel but he must use the outcome productively if he is to place himself and The Headhunters back on the top of the mountain.

…and the dream match delivers

When it was announced that The Untouchables of Damian Slater & Marcius Pitt would take on The Street Gang Hooligans of Alex Kingston & Logan Grey, fans and peers alike voiced their anticipation for the encounter. 2 newly formed teams featuring 4 of Australia’s absolute best, with plenty of spite between them, is what Professional Wrestling is all about.

Words will not do it justice. Quite simply, this match delivered and you’d be crazy to miss out on the sequel on February 3rd at Hot Summer’s Night! Make sure to catch this one on Vimeo when it’s released.

All that glitters is gold

Don’t let the glitz and glamour of Re-Awakening distract you. There have been few moments in EPW history as inspiring as Allyson Cruz becoming the EPW Tag Team Champion. In fact, this makes Cruz the first female to hold what has traditionally been seen as ‘men’s gold’. Overcoming 9 other teams in the #1 Contendership Tag Team Rumble, Cruz and her Generation Zero ally Hayden Zenith were forced to face the music against long-time champions The Solution, without even the chance of a breather. The pair walked away hands held high which led to…

The Messiah to rule no longer

A tale that saw ‘The Don’ Michael Morleone put life and limb (literally) on the line night after night for well over a decade, has had the most perfect fairy-tale ending. Multiple time EPW Champion Davis Storm walked in as the man, but left a broken soul. With The Solution’s Warship turning his back on the former champ, this time by no accident, and referee Giles O’Brien making his return to count the 1-2-3, Storm’s usual ‘power in numbers’ approach was foiled.

Ladies and gentleman, we have a new EPW Champion and what is even crazier is that Generation Zero now hold every Championship in Explosive Pro Wrestling!
